About Imports

You can import entries from other local termbases into another termbase in MultiTerm. You cannot import into a remote termbase from MultiTerm Workstation. This must be done using MultiTerm Administrator.

You can use the import function to import termbases from MultiTerm '95 Plus or MultiTerm 5. To do so, use the MultiTerm Migration Tool to migrate the termbases and then import them into MultiTerm.

An import definition is the list of criteria on which you want MultiTerm to base an import. For example, you might want to apply a filter before the import. Then you might decide to merge new entries with existing entries, to overwrite existing entries or to just add all entries as new. These specifications make up what is called the import definition. You create your import definition and then process the import using the Import Wizard.

- feature that allows you to import termbase data from another application, for example MultiTerm 5 or MultiTerm '95 Plus. Use the Import Wizard to add new entries to your termbase or to change existing entries. Termbase data for import must be available in the new MultiTerm XML format.

- a tool for migrating termbases from MultiTerm '95 Plus or MultiTerm 5 to MultiTerm XML format. The output from the MultiTerm Migration Tool consists of a termbase definition (XDT) file and a termbase data (XML) file. The XDT is used to create a new termbase in MultiTerm iX. The XML file can then be imported into the new termbase or further processed in any XML-aware application.

- termbase object that is used to define a subset of termbase data for search, import or export purposes. When you apply a filter to one of these operations, MultiTerm evaluates entries according to the filter criteria and distinguishes between matching and non-matching entries during further processing.

- termbase object that is used to specify import parameters. For example, the import definition specifies how to treat import entries that have entry numbers that already exist in the termbase. The import definition can be saved to the file system as an XDI file.
