Creating a Local Termbase

- database used to store terminology and related information. Consists of a termbase definition outlining the structure of termbase entries, and termbase data.

- the hierarchical structure of fields in a termbase entry. There are three levels in the entry structure and fields can be stored at each of these levels. The entry level holds system fields, entry class fields and descriptive fields that apply to the whole entry. The index level holds index (term) fields and descriptive fields that apply to all the terms in that index. The term level holds descriptive fields that apply to the term.

Creating a Local Termbase

All users can create a local termbase. Local Termbases are stored in the Termbase directory which is a sub-directory of the MultiTerm directory. The default path for this is C:\Program Files\TRADOS Corporate Language\MultiTerm\Termbase.

You can create a local termbase from scratch, or you can base it on an existing termbase. This is particularly useful if you wish to base all your termbases on one template.

To create a termbase from an existing termbase definition:

Save the termbase definition that you are going to use. This will be in an XDT file.

Select Create from the Termbase menu. The Termbase Wizard starts.

In step 1 select Load an Existing Termbase definition file. Click the browse button and select the XDT file that you saved. You can modify the definition in any way, by adding new fields, deleting existing fields or changing the entry structure.
