MultiTerm is a specialised termbase program that helps you to create, manage, and present your terminology.
MultiTerm can store an unlimited number of entries in free-format text.
MultiTerm is a concept-oriented system. One entry always corresponds to one concept. This means that an entry contains all the terms that describe the concept, as well as any additional information associated with that concept, for example, a definition.
For each concept, you can specify terms in up to any number of languages. Because the concept-oriented approach means that all terms in an entry represent a single concept, the termbase can be searched in any language direction. Terms are sorted in indexed fields. Index fields are usually language-based so that entries are sorted according to language, for example English and German. However, the MultiTerm system can also be used as a database or knowledge base system. If you are using MultiTerm for this purpose, you may wish to use the index fields to categorise information primarily according to subject rather than language. This is why MultiTerm refers to terms as index terms.
MultiTerm offers free-format text fields for entering additional descriptive information, for example definitions, contexts, examples and usage notes. Descriptive field types include text, picklist, Boolean, date/time number and multimedia. You can also use fields to classify entire entries or individual items in entries. For example, you can add fields to identify the source, subject area, or customer name particular to an entire entry or to a term or definition.
MultiTerm allows you to attach graphics and other multimedia files to entries. This includes video, music, and other formats, for example, Microsoft PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat files, as well as all common graphic formats. Once you have support for a file format on your operating system, then you have full access to it from within MultiTerm.
Powerful search functions help you to quickly locate information in the termbase. These range from the simple search to the fuzzy search, which will find even transposed or misspelled terms. The log function records terms which you cannot find, so that you can enter them at a later date.
Cross references allow you to link entries to each other. These are simple to create and use and offer a quick way to move around in the termbase.
The import and export functions offer a way to exchange information with other applications and other MultiTerm users:
The import function allows you to merge data from other sources with the data in your termbase.
The export function allows you to output data from your termbases in specific formats, for example, dictionary format.
Filters allows you to dictate exactly what information you want to search for, import or export.
A series of easy to use wizards facilitate the use, modification and transfer of termbase definitions as well as import, export, filter, layout and input model definitions.
The Termbase Wizard allows you to define a new termbase definition or modify an existing one.
The Filter Wizard is a flexible powerful tool that allows you to choose which entries you want to see and work with.
The Import Wizard allows you to merge data from other sources with the data in your termbase, or to populate an empty termbase.
The Export Wizard allows you to output data from your termbases in specific formats, for example, dictionary format.
The Input Model Wizard allows to specify different templates for consistency in entering information in the termbase.
The Layout Wizard allows you to specify how you want your entries to appear. Each item in an entry can be formatted differently, to suit your needs.
