The connection is made from the host PC, and shared transparently by the guest PC. <P>Virtual PC's Virtual Switching feature can also be used for these purposes, but it is generally not recommended. Using the Virtual Switch requires knowledge about network configuration.</P> <P>Using a dial-up connection from the guest PC is also generally not recommended. A dial-up connection initiated from the guest PC may not be shared with the host PC or with any other guest PC. In addition, setting up a dial-up connection is a challenging task.</P> <H2>Connecting with Shared Networking</H2> <P><B>To access the Internet using Shared Networking:</B><BR> <OL CLASS=STEP> <LI>Set the guest PC to use Shared Networking. See: <A HREF="../../vpc04/pgs/vpc4Networking.htm" >Networking Settings</A>. <LI>Connect to the Internet from the host PC environment, either by modem or LAN. <LI>Launch the browser program in the guest PC environment. </OL> <P><B>To access an e-mail server using Shared Networking:</B><BR> <OL CLASS=STEP> <LI>Set the guest PC to use Shared Networking. See: <A HREF="../../vpc04/pgs/vpc4Networking.htm" >Networking Settings</A>. <LI>Connect to your mail server network from the host PC environment, either by modem or LAN. <LI>Launch the e-mail program in the guest PC environment. </OL> </P> <P CLASS=NOTE><B>Note</B>: When using Shared Networking, the guest PC will share the host PC's IP address.
