You may want to create a new boot disk, and install your own OS. You may want to create a secondary disk image for additional storage space. Or you may want to duplicate an existing boot disk, for use with a new PC.
Virtual PC provides the Virtual Disk Wizard, which walks you through the steps of creating a new disk. The Virtual Disk Wizard also allows you to create a floppy disk image, or examine or modify an existing floppy or hard disk image.

Creating a new hard disk image

To create a new hard disk image:

Bring the Virtual PC Window to the front.
On the File menu, click Virtual Disk Wizard.
Click Next.
Select Create new floppy or hard disk image.
Follow the instructions presented.

To duplicate an existing hard disk image:

Shut down the guest PC whose disk image you want to duplicate.
Locate the disk image on the host PC desktop.
Use the host PC OS to duplicate the disk image.

Modifying an existing hard disk image

To modify an existing hard disk image:

Shut down the PC whose disk you want to modify.
Bring the Virtual PC Window to the front.
On the File menu, click Virtual Disk Wizard.
Click Next.
Select Examine or modify existing disk image.
Follow the instructions presented.

Hard Disk Specifications

When creating a new hard disk, or modifying an existing hard disk, there are a number of disk characteristics that you must specify. The following table gives additional information about these characteristics.

Disk Type
A dynamically expanding disk will consume only a minimal amount of space at the time you create it. As you add more data, the disk image will expand, up to the maximum capacity that you specify.

A fixed size disk will consume the entire disk space at the time that you create the disk image. If you are concerned about security, you may want to clear the disk of data at the time that you create it. To do this, select Zero Disk Image.

For an explanation of other disk types, consult the Virtual PC manual.

Disk Format
Disk images must be formatted to work with a specific operating system. Select the disk format appropriate for the PC operating system with which you plan to use this disk.

Note: The Virtual Disk Wizard does not install the operating system on the disk.

Disk Size
The Virtual Disk Wizard will recommend a disk size. To specify a different disk size, enter a value in the disk size box.

The amount of space consumed when you create the disk will depend on the disk type you have selected.

<CET_ADSENSEF> </CET_ADSENSEF> <CET_FOOTER>

You are reading help file online using chmlib.com

If you want your help file to be removed or added please send e-mail to chmlibcom@gmail.com </CET_FOOTER>
